Why Teacher Education Matters — Om College of Education's Mission in Jhabua

Om College of Education reflects on its mission to bring quality teacher training to the tribal and rural communities of Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh through D.El.Ed and B.Ed programs.

Jhabua is one of the predominantly tribal districts of Madhya Pradesh, and access to quality higher education — especially teacher education — has historically been limited for students from this region. Om College of Education, established under Sajjan Aadiwasi Shikshan Evam Vikas Samiti, was founded with a clear mission: to bridge this gap and empower local students to become qualified, committed teachers.

By offering government-approved D.El.Ed and B.Ed programs in Thandla, the college provides students from Jhabua and surrounding areas the opportunity to pursue teacher training without having to travel to larger cities. This not only makes education more accessible but also ensures that qualified teachers return to serve their own communities — a multiplier effect that benefits the entire region.

The college follows the curriculum and admission processes set by RSK Madhya Pradesh (for D.El.Ed) and HED Madhya Pradesh (for B.Ed), ensuring that its graduates meet the national and state standards for teacher eligibility. Students who complete their programs here are eligible to appear for TET and CTET examinations and take up teaching positions in government and private schools.

Om College of Education believes that when a young person from a tribal village becomes a teacher, they carry with them the potential to educate hundreds of children over their career. That is the kind of long-term impact the college strives to create — one student, one teacher, one community at a time.

When you educate one person, you can change a life. When you educate many, you can change the world.
